Somaly Mam Visits Seattle for Fundraising Events
Online, July 18, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The employees of Ãegis Living, a national leader in assisted living and memory care communities, have partnered with the Somaly Mam Foundation in its mission to provide a new housing facility, Lotus House, for rescued children.
As a young girl Somaly Mam was sold into slavery. Somaly heroically escaped her captors but vowed never to forget those left behind and has dedicated her life to saving victims and empowering survivors by creating the Somaly Mam Foundation. With over two million women and children sold into slavery each year, human trafficking is a global crisis that must be stopped. More resources are critically needed to support the rescue and rehabilitation of these young victims.
The goal of the Lotus House Project is to build a new house with 24-hour security, emotional resources, a supportive staff and their peers to help heal their wounded memories. This goal will be reached through employee grassroots fundraisers: runs, car washes, t-shirt sales and many other creative events. They are also hoping for assistance from corporate partnerships and donations from the public.
Ãegis Living will host Somaly Mam in the Seattle area July 19-21. During her trip she will meet with the company's founder and CEO, Dwayne Clark, to learn more about Ãegis Living and the Lotus House Project. Employees at the corporate office will have a meet and great with Somaly on July 19th, later attending a Silent Auction event at Aegis of Shoreline from 6:30-8:30pm. Friday, July 20th the staff at Aegis of Bellevue has scheduled a street fair with local vendors at the assisted living community and other local business owners donating a portion of that day's profits to the Lotus House Project. Her visit in Seattle will wrap up with a private dinner at the home of Dwayne and Terese Clark on July 21st.
