Taobao.com is China's biggest retailer and it happens to be an internet site. On September 14th Taobao's CFO Daniel Zhang announced that U.S. based beauty expert and consumer advocate, Paula Begoun, will serve as Taobao's Chief Beauty Advisor.

Owned by the Alibaba Group, Taobao's business model is a combination of eBay and Amazon, offering products for sale via consumer to consumer as well as business to consumer. At a press conference in Beijing Taobao stated that Paula Begoun's status as the Cosmetics Cop and the go-to expert around the world for unbiased information and analysis on skincare and makeup will be a valuable asset for Taobao's continued growth.

Paula Begoun is author of 18 books on skin care and makeup that has been translated into 7 different languages including Simplified and Traditional Chinese. She has appeared on every major national TV show in the U.S. and numerous other countries for over 25 years.

Paula's own internet-only cosmetics line, Paula's Choice (www.PaulasChoice.com) launched on Taobao in 2009 and is growing at a sky rocketing pace. Paula's Choice US has grown 25% on average for the past 10 years.

At the press conference in Beijing Paula said "Although my products are distributed in 42 countries adding China has been the most thrilling. Chinese women have a growing passion for using the internet as a source of information and shopping. Given my company is based on providing both information and well-formulated products I think that is why I received such an unexpected enthusiastic welcome."

While Paula was in China she met with more than 100 beauty editors, reporters, bloggers, and beauty website portals. Paula answered questions about skin whitening, Asian skin care needs, product selection, beauty myth-busting, and the Chinese beauty business.
