Open Book Audio Releases New, Unedited Version of Huck Finn on Audiobook
Online, January 10, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Open Book Audio, an audiobook production and distribution company, has just released a new, unabridged version of the classic American novel, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain.
In the works for nearly six months, this new audiobook version of Twain's well-known novel happened to be scheduled for release amidst a storm of controversy surrounding a recently announce print version of the novel which will be edited to remove the much of the objectionable content. Open Book Audio chose to create an audiobook version of Huck Finn that is true to the source material--meaning all of the original language was left just as the author intended.
"Huck Finn is an expertly crafted novel, and can be an excellent teaching tool about our history as a nation." says CEO and co-founder of Open Book Audio, Matt Armstrong. "We opted to keep the book's language intact because we feel that erasing a negative part of our history does a disservice to everyone. We are very particular about the kind of audiobooks we produce, but we feel that in the case of Huck Finn, the offensive language in the story serves to represent the time and place of the novel and we wanted to accurately reflect that."
The audiobook is slated for release as a digital download on January 10, 2011 via the Open Book Audio Store for the purchase price of $8.95. The book will also be released in subsequent weeks through several other digital audiobook retailers.
