In 2001, Marina Kamen had recently lost 100 pounds and found that her then 15-year-old son Justin was showing signs of becoming obese. Marina being a musical fitness expert was working as a content developer and spokesperson for health divisions and companies including QVC (Urban Rebounding) and Jackie Chan's Cableflex. She started to simply run in place everyday with her son Justin to the beat of the music she was writing for her clients. Marina would motivate her son, singing and speaking about lifestyle choices as they ran in place at home together. Since then, Marina has received the People's Choice Podcast Award in Health & Fitness, helping families merge the worlds of music and health through "edutainment".
In 2004, Justin Kamen graduated from High School 40 pounds lighter after working out with his mom. He went on to attend Columbia University with a new found interest in Public Health advocacy. While at Columbia University, Justin founded Students Prep America, a grassroots organization for public health awareness. Justin graduated college in 2008 and published his thesis on pandemic flu in the peer-reviewed journal, "Eyes on the ICC".
He now attends Brooklyn Law School.
Marina says,"Obesity can compromise the immune system, therefore making the H1N1 virus more dangerous."
