Louisville Glass Art Gallery, Flame Run, Presents Glass Art Sculptural Drawings of Alexandra Marchant

Flame Run Gallery showcases the unique glass art sculptural drawings of local artist

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Flame Run Glass Studio and Gallery will feature a solo exhibit of the work of Alexandra Marchant from April 1 through May 28. An opening night reception begins at 5 p.m. on Gallery Hop night with a demonstration at 7 p.m.

Marchant is best known for what she calls her "sculptural drawings," three or four identically engraved glass drawings mounted on a piece of metal over images painted in acrylic. The show also will include blown glass, fused glass and ceramic pieces.

"She has a very different approach to glass," said Flame Run owner Brook Forrest White Jr. "The pieces have a presence of their own. They are amazingly detailed. When people look at her work, you can see them just standing and getting lost in the art."

Marchant, a multiple media artist from Cleveland, Ohio, received her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in ceramics with a minor in glass from the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2009. She was awarded the Jack Zipp Scholarship for Glass in 2007 and the Guy Cowan Pottery Scholarship in 2008. Her commissioned work can be viewed at the Cleveland Clinic Laboratory Medical Office as well as the Caddy Shack Lounge, also in Cleveland. She's also working on a series of glass engravings to illustrate the building process of a new national laboratory on the Cleveland Clinic campus. She lives in Louisville.
