Charlotte Checkers Facebook Page Reaches 10,000 Fans With Help of New Way Media
Online, April 1, 2010 (Newswire.com) - "We brought in New Way Media to consult and bring a strategy to our Facebook Fandemonium promotion," said Mike Lappan, director of public and media relations for the Checkers. "Working together, we were able to surpass our goals and establish one of the largest online fan bases in all of minor-league hockey."
The Checkers new AHL Facebook fan page was created less than three weeks ago and has grown exponentially with daily engagement from active fans. The Facebook page currently has the largest fan base of all the teams in the AHL. The Facebook Fandemonium party, which featured a free ticket and other special in-game promotions, was awarded to fans when the page was successful in reaching 10,000 before Monday, March 29. The page continues to grow today, with more than 11,000 fans.
When The Checkers hit the 10,000-fan benchmark during a game Saturday March 27th, the team and New Way Media provided fans with a video board spot featuring Checkers COO Tera Black thanking them for their involvement.
The audience response has been overwhelming as the Checkers have joined and built engaged communities online. Facebook, in particular, has served as the hub of the Charlotte Checkers online community with live game stats, photos, videos and behind-the-scenes content. Fans can join the Checkers Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/charlottecheckers and they are encouraged to invite their friends to do the same.
