Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre is hosting an awareness event on 24th October to help peo
Online, October 11, 2009 (Newswire.com) - On October 24th local people will be gathering at the Centre in Aldershot, Hampshire for an event to create awareness about carbon emissions as part of the largest global day of climate action ever - with more than 2,000 events occurring in more than 140 nations. We are encouraging local children to use their creative talents to paint banners with the numbers 350 on them. We will display the banners at the event and photograph them for the 350.org team to display on a huge screen in Times Square in New York.
The event is being coordinated by Bricks and Bread to endorse the 350.org International campaign which is urging world leaders to take fast and effective action on global warming.
On the 7th of December Governments will meet in Copenhagen for the United Nations Climate Change Conference to create a new climate treaty.
This is the first global campaign ever organized around a scientific data point: 350 parts per million of CO2 is the safe upper limit for the atmosphere according to the latest scientific data. The current CO2 concentration is 390 parts per million in the atmosphere.
Details about the event
On Saturday 24th October there will be an event at the Centre which will help people understand greenhouse gases and offers realistic ways for people and businesses to reduce their carbon emissions.
The event will highlight how people can make small changes to their life to not only reduce co2 emissions but to save money and become more self sufficient. This event supports the 350.org campaign to raise awareness about reducing carbon emissions from the current level of 390 parts per million co2 in the atmosphere.
We are asking Local children to use their creative talents to create banners with the numbers 350 on them. We will display the banners at the event and take photographs which will be sent to the 350.org team to display in New York City in Times Square where the global media will be standing by to record the images for the world to see.
At 3.50pm the event we will also be asking people to join us in making a human banner to spell out the 350 message and demonstrate our united support of this important number.
We are inviting the Press to come and photograph us making a human banner to spread the word about 350 in the UK media
Background on Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre
Bricks and Bread Sustainable Living Centre based in Aldershot, Hampshire is a Community Interest Company created by people who are dedicated to making it easier to access independent advice, skills training and verified products to make it possible for people to live, work and build sustainably.
The Centre opened in June 2009 and will be franchising this business across the UK. It focuses on providing practical solutions and money making ventures which encourage people to see that adapting to sustainable living is an interesting journey of discovering new ideas and ways to live.
The company is run by people who are leading by example, having been materialistic consumers with careers in motorsport and the oil industry they have successfully adapted their lives over the last decade to become self sufficient and create sustainable businesses.
Their transition was driven by a personal desire to take responsibility for their impact on the environment without compromising their modern standards of living. It wasn't easy but by collaborating with like-minded people they have proved it is possible to live a low carbon lifestyle and have a profitable business which benefits their local community.
Background on 350.org
Founded by author and environmentalist Bill McKibben, 350.org is the first large-scale grassroots global campaign against climate change. Its supporters include leading scientists, the governments of 89 countries, and a huge variety of environmental, health, development and religious NGOs. All agree that current atmospheric levels of co2-390 parts per million-are causing damage to the planet and to its most vulnerable people, and that government action at the Copenhagen climate conference is required to bring the earth's carbon level swiftly down.
On October 24th people in every corner of the world will be taking similar action, from climbers with 350 banners high on the melting slopes of Mount Everest to government officials in the Maldive Islands holding an underwater cabinet meeting to demand action on climate change before their nation disappears.
The 350.org team has permission to display the 350 photos from around the world on the MASSIVE screens in the heart of New York City, with global media standing by to broadcast the story worldwide!
