VENATOL announces International ENERGY GLOBE AWARD for Middle East and Asia

Online, December 20, 2009 (Newswire.com) - DUBAI - Venatol, the leading environmental services and alternative energy research and development company is to collaborate with organisers of the Energy Globe Award to launch the first regional prize in 2010 for the Middle East and Asia regions. The accolade is anticipated to become the premier international environmental prize.
Distinguishing projects regionally, nationally and globally that conserve resources and utilises renewable or emission free sources, the prize encompasses and acknowledges the diverse range of ecological projects underway across the globe.
A representative office for the award has opened in Dubai, and Venatol's Vice President, Dr. Barbara Urasch believes that the strides the UAE is taking in following good environmental practices makes it an ideal location for the office.
"The fact that the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) headquarters was established in Abu Dhabi recently is a measure of the efforts the country's taking to promote positive environment activities," she said. "Dubai was one of the first cities in the Middle East to support international efforts for energy saving principles. This is manifested in His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's visionary policies, which display a deep insight into the issues that concern experts in the fields of architecture, science, environment, harmony with international trends toward energy saving, and the development of alternative energy sources to maintain a clean environment with less thermal radiation."

Urasch added that the Energy Globe Award has already generated considerable interest from regional companies looking to participate.

The winners in the categories of earth, fire, water, air and youth will be selected by a panel including members from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, the World Bank and the European Renewable Energy Council. For the premier award, the committee will consider projects from 105 countries and the final winner will be announced in the European Parliament.

Since its inception in 1999 the Energy Globe Award has become an important instrument to honour companies, organisations and individuals for their work to create a better environment.

Past prizewinners and supporting organisations include former United Nations Director General Kofi Anan, former Russian leader Michael Gorbachev, UNO, UNESCO, the European Parliament and many more.
