Punch Series Gets New Cover Art by Dawn Witzke

The seven book science fiction series Punch is getting brand new cover art by artist Dawn Witzke.

The seven book science fiction series Punch, part of the Time Yarns Universe, is getting all new covers by Dawn Witzke.

Author Erin Lale says, "The Punch series was published as a monthly serial, one novella per month, and the covers were always intended to be temporary. Plans for an omnibus edition with all the transmedia elements embedded, including video, didn't come to pass because the guy developing the transmedia platform that Punch was supposed to test died. Now, with a new Time Yarns Universe book on the way from Eternal Press (Planet of the Magi) the Punch series is finally getting some great looking cover art."

Lale provided Witzke with a plot summary of each book, but no character descriptions. So the new covers will be radically different than the old covers, based on feelings about action rather than an attempt to portray actual people and objects from the books. The old cover of Punch book 1: The Loribond, was a photo of the Diamond Crown, a costume piece worn by the actor who played Emperor Xywanda in the Time Yarns trailer. The new cover also features a crown, but a more traditional looking one. The new cover also features main character Carla Punch, but as a brunette rather than a blonde. The new covers for the first two books are done, and they both include space scenes and stars, giving the reader an idea about the sweep of the story across the galaxy.

The new covers will go live when all seven are complete. Each of the old covers was either a photo of a prop from the trailer, a film still from the trailer, or a space photo from the copyright-free US government archives. The old cover of Book 2: Dark Horse was a photo of the Horse Head Nebula. The new cover by Dawn Witzke features space ships in formation in front of an alien planet.

Lale says, "The Time Yarns Universe has outgrown the Time Yarns imprint that was created to publish it. The new Time Yarns Universe book, Planet of the Magi, is set a thousand years after the Punch series. It will be published by Eternal Press, which is now an imprint of Caliburn Press. I'm still supporting the previously published Time Yarns books, and getting new covers for Punch shows how serious I am about that. Previous Time Yarns books were in ebook format only, but Planet of the Magi will be in both ebook and print."
