New Occupational Safety and Health Act Rule for Reporting Injuries Required for Contractors Starting Jan. 1

Starting January 1, 2015 a new rule will go into effect for employers covered by the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) that will require contractors to face new deadlines for reporting severe injuries on the job site. The Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc. explained the prior rule stated that an employer only had to report work-related fatalities and in-patient hospitalizations of three or more employees.

Contractors will now have to notify the Occupational Safety and Health Act within eight hours if there is a work-related fatality that happened on the job. For an employee who suffers a work-related hospitalization, amputation or loss of an eye is required to be reported to OSHA within 24 hours.

Incidents can be reported through the Occupational Safety and Health Act’s new web portal or by use of the phone reporting options.
