Celebrities Desreta Jackson , DeMonica Santiago, Hawthorne James and Watts Prodigy Attend Wattstar Theatres Screening Under the Stars

Celebrity Ambassador for Wattstar Theatre and Education Center, Desresta Jackson delivers uplifting speech at the inaugural Wattstar Theatres Screening Under the Stars.

Wattstar Celebrity Ambassador, Desreta Jackson along with celebrity friends DeMonica Santiago, Hawthorne James and Watts Prodigy attended the Wattstar community movie night on Saturday, October 24, 2015.

The free movie under the stars featured Jurassic World (PG-13), was rated the number movie of the year in June 2015.

Desreta devotion to her childhood community is refreshing. I wish more celebrities would remember their foundation and find a way to reach back, inspire and exhibit a behavior that would be socially acceptable if youth can emulate .

The film which stars Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard and Ty Simpkins is an action, adventure, sci-fi film that the entire family can enjoy. What made this screening different than simply watching it at a theater or at home on DVD is the fact that the public was able to join together as a unit to enjoy the film. The bonus was, they are able to view it with celebrities that support them and their community.

Desreta Jackson greeted the crowd with her infectious smile and briefly shared a portion of her upbringing in Watts, Ca. Contrary to stereotypes of the neighborhood, Desreta gave hope and encouragement to the many young supporters that came out to see the film. She shared how valuable the lessons she learned while growing up in Watts helped her play her role as young Celie in the award winning motion picture “The Color Purple” as well as prepared for her adulthood life. Desreta stood proud in front of the crowd which was combined of different races and age ranges, being the tangible  evidence that being a success from Watts, Ca is not just a notion but a reality and she is living proof.

Having the support of other celebrities, city officials, representatives from Regency Theaters and other organizations was important for the community to see. This was a great beginning to the amazing things in store for the city of Watts, CA.

The screening took place at the world renowned Watts Towers and was the first of many screenings planned for the Watts Cinema and Education Center.
