LumenEd, an emerging educational technology startup, seeks crowdfunding for the Bright Orange Box (BoB), a battery-powered smart projector designed for classrooms.

LumenEd, a social venture creating global dialogues between classrooms, turns to the Kickstarter community to fund the Bright Orange Box (BoB). The BoB, a battery-powered smart projector, allows classrooms in the US to interact with classrooms in India while bringing digital learning content to under-resourced classrooms in India.

Classrooms in the US and India are part of a weekly Video Pen Pal Program that allows them to easily send videos to each other. This service is made possible by the BoB, which can record full HD videos in classrooms lacking internet and power infrastructure. To make the video recording and sharing process easy for both classrooms, we are developing a unified Android and iOS app that teachers in India can use with the BoB, and teachers in the US can use with smartphones.

The Bright Orange Box is also an innovative digital educational tool. Combining the latest in projector and mobile technology, it runs for up to three hours on the integrated battery. BoB outputs 500 lumens and has 8W stereo speakers, ensuring that it can display content even in bright and loud classrooms. Running Android 4.2 with a 7” touchscreen on top, teachers navigate the device interface through a simple app interface that plays content can easily play content from an external USB drive.

LumenEd is raising $40,000 over a month-long Kickstarter campaign. The funds will go towards developing an Android platform of the Bright Orange Box and building the mobile apps. The Video Pen Pal Program will partner 100 classrooms in the US and India from July 2015-March 2016, and will expand to 250 classrooms next year.

When asked why LumenEd is revolutionary, Prakash Paudel, CEO of LumenEd, said “In an increasingly interconnected world, global perspectives are becoming sorely missing from American classrooms. Far too few American students are having the deep cross-cultural experiences necessary to become compassionate, globally competent citizens.” Thomas Kreek, Chief Developer, added “The Bright Orange Box was designed from the ground-up for the teacher and is able to bring this global dialogue to any school, even if they don’t have internet or electricity. Students love having it around, and everybody wants one!”.  To learn more, readers can visit the project’s Kickstarter page here: bitly.com/lumenedkickstarter
