Altec Lansing's BoomJacket Named CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree

All-Weather Bluetooth Speaker Withstands the Elements, Lasts 40 Hours, Mounts on Bikes & More

Altec Lansing announced today that it has been recognized as a CES 2016 Innovation Awards Honoree for its BoomJacket all-weather portable Bluetooth speaker, a floatable, submersible, water-, shock- and dirt-proof speaker with a 40-hour battery life, built-in mounting mechanism, and voice-controlled speakerphone functionality. The BoomJacket enables crisp, rich indoor/outdoor music listening without risk of damage from sand, rain, bumpy bike rides, dropping, or even a tumble into a pool or lake – all for just $199.

The speaker was recognized in the competition’s portable media players and accessories category, one of 27 product classifications evaluated by a panel of independent industrial designers, engineers and trade media. Entries were judged on their engineering, aesthetic and design qualities, intended use/function and user value, how the design and innovation of the product directly compares to other products in the marketplace, and unique features.

“Indoor/outdoor Bluetooth speakers are as essential for consumers today as digital music libraries. The challenge is to develop a product that combines truly weather-proof construction, first-class sound, premium features like mountability and speakerphone functionality that eliminates the need to disconnect to talk when a call comes in through your connected smartphone, and affordable price,” said Joseph Campos, Altec Lansing’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing.  “The BoomJacket delivers the goods at half the cost of many competitive products, setting a new standard in the all-weather speaker category.”

At just 2 lbs. and roughly half the size of a standard computer keyboard, the BoomJacket is small and lightweight enough to go anywhere. Features include:

  • A rubberized shock-absorbing sleeve and special sealant that prevent damage from dust, dirt, sand, water and rough handling.
  • The ability to be submerged in up to 3 feet of water for as long as 30 minutes without damage.
  • Dual 2.0” neodymium drivers, a passive bass radiator, Altec DSP audio enhancement technology and aptX® CD-quality wireless audio that produce stellar sound.
  • Up to 40 hours of continuous playback on a single charge of the lithium-ion battery.
  • A hands-free speakerphone with voice controls enabling users to accept and reject calls verbally, along with spoken caller ID that speaks the caller’s name (if in the user’s contact list) instead of a phone number for easy identification.
  • A universal mounting mechanism for attachment to bikes, kayaks, jet skis, tent poles and other equipment or structures.

Music can be played or streamed wirelessly up to 50 feet away from any Bluetooth-enabled Apple®, AndroidTM or BlackBerry® phone or tablet or laptop, or in wired mode using the built-in 3.5mm aux port. The BoomJacket also doubles as a device charger via the built-in USB connector or powerbank support on the road, pairs with up to eight mobile devices with one-time setup, and provides verbal battery status notification by pressing a button.

The CES Innovation Awards are sponsored by the Consumer Technology Association, the producer of CES 2016, and have been recognizing achievements in product design and engineering since 1976. A complete list of CES 2016 Innovation Honoree products is posted at CESweb.org/Innovation.

Altec Lansing’s BoomJacket will be displayed at CES 2016, which runs January 6-9, 2016, in Las Vegas. A selection of Honorees was also displayed today at CES Unveiled New York at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
