Youth Guidance to Hold 23rd Annual Parent Leadership Conference

Youth Guidance, a school-based organization working to enable Chicago’s at-risk youth succeed in both school and life, will be hosting its 23rd Annual Parent Leadership Conference. The conference, which will be held February 19th and 20th at the Hilton Chicago – Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale, IL., features the theme Rallying the Village: Home, School and Community.

Most commonly known for their Becoming a Man (BAM) and Working on Womanhood (WOW) programs, Youth Guidance also works to support youth by strengthening their families through the Parent and Family Engagement program. The dynamic, two-day event has been a hallmark event for Youth Guidance for more than two decades and features workshops based on challenges parents are facing in their communities. Attendees will gain problem-solving and action-planning skills to implement within schools and the home.

"Parents will leave with new ideas to help their sons and daughters succeed."

Della Ezell, Parent & Family Engagement Program Manager

The conference will also feature speakers demonstrating the best practices in establishing effective home-school connections. Additionally, professional development workshops for school staff and agency partners will offer strategies to increase a school’s capacity to develop better relationships
with parents and sustain meaningful parental involvement that also supports the school’s educational goals.

Della Ezell, Youth Guidance Parent and Family Engagement Program Manager and conference organizer, is looking forward to another impactful year: "We carefully picked topics for this year’s conference, focusing on tools that parents need most. We are covering areas such as Common Core Standards, support for fathers, and how to parent for the social and emotional well-being of children both in home and in school. Parents will leave with new ideas to help their sons and daughters succeed.”

Transportation options will be available to attendees. To RSVP or to donate, please contact Della Ezell, Program Manager, Parent & Family Engagement, at 312-404-3202 .
