Your Time Publishing's Founder and Author Is Writing Her Version Of "The Help"
Online, September 12, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Author, playwright, Paulette Jones has written her answer to the bestselling novel and movie "The Help" which depicts the domestic worker as childless (even thought they had children), vindictive and sad. She gives us the view from the domestic worker women that she grew up knowing, her Big Momma and her TeeTee's. She discusses their points of view as she believes they would have wanted. Then she takes the liberty to give her impression of the employers as she recalls the stories she heard while sitting at the kitchen table at Nana's house. She is using a familiar setting the kitchen table and the four characters she created in her debut theatrical play "Sistahs" which was performed at Berkeley's Black Repertory Theater in the 1990s. Paulette Jones began her writing career at the Black Repertory Theater in Berkeley, California under the tutelage of Mrs. Nora Vaughn.
There has been so much debate about the merits of the book and movie The Help that Ms. Jones feels that another voice needs to weigh in on this subject. "We are so grateful for the sacrifices our mothers and grandmothers made for us to have better educations, better opportunities, better lives, and we don't take lightly this fallacy being spread about them." A major scene in the movie is about a certain pie, most people say what kind of person would do such a thing "the kind of person you think I am" said Ms. Jones. And that's the problem.
The NAACP said The Help was a great movie that we all should support; I'm sure they will really enjoy and want you all to support this endeavor. Paulette Jones is looking for a theater, producer, and director who can give this piece its props.
