Online, November 15, 2013 (Newswire.com) - Doreen Granpeesheh, PhD, BCBA-D, world- renowned autism expert, clinical psychologist, and the founder and CEO of the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), Inc., will host a two-hour seminar, "Creating a Comprehensive and Individualized Treatment Program for a Child with Autism," on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Edison State College in Ft. Myers. Attendees will learn about effective, individualized treatment programs that teach necessary skills and maximize skill acquisition, specifically for children with ASD. The event is designed for parents, practitioners, educators, and caregivers. Attendees must RSVP to d.plump@centerforautism.com by Dec. 3.
The seminar will teach attendees about treatment approaches grounded in applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy, considered to be at the forefront of behavioral interventions for those with ASD.
"Many families across the state are desperately in need of access to effective treatment solutions for their children," said Doreen Granpeesheh, PhD, BCBA-D. "We are eager to share our expertise and experience to help these individuals reach their fullest potential."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in every 88 children in the U.S. is diagnosed with ASD, making it more prevalent than juvenile diabetes, pediatric cancer, and childhood AIDS combined. Research shows ASD is the fastest growing developmental disability in the United States.
Dr. Doreen Granpeesheh has dedicated over 30 years to helping individuals with autism lead healthy, productive lives. She founded CARD in 1990 to address the demand for quality treatment providers. CARD is one of the world's largest and most effective treatment providers using the principles and procedures of ABA therapy. CARD is also the nation's third-largest non-governmental organization contributing to autism research.
In 2009, CARD researchers published "Retrospective Analysis of Clinical Records in 38 Cases of Recovery from Autism" in the Annals of Clinical Psychiatry, showing that recovery from autism is possible with early, intensive intervention using ABA.
