Women 50+ Are Dangerous On Facebook
Online, August 4, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Minneapolis, MN - Facebook users age 50 and up may still be one of the social media site's smallest groups of participants, but their numbers continue to grow. Perceptive boomer-and-beyond oriented organization Aging But DANGEROUS is counting on their members being part of that elite group. Owners Jean Ketcham and C. Suzanne Bates have set the ambitious goal of achieving 1,000 Likes to their Aging But DANGEROUS Facebook Fan page by August 20th, 2011 in conjunction with their 2nd Annual Martini Jump Skydive Event.
1,000 Facebook Fan Page Likes in 3 weeks is a hefty goal for any mid-sized organization, but particularly so when your target audience is considered to be less web-savvy in general. "We had been told by web professionals that our audience (women 50+) wasn't on Facebook" says owner Jean Ketcham, "but sponsors and publishers are using Facebook audience as a measuring tool for their involvement." With a book in the works, they can no longer afford to ignore the social media giant. Owner C. Suzanne Bates states, "We've been told point-blank by a prospective publisher that our Facebook Page needs to have 1,000 followers to be considered for a contract."
Pairing their Facebook ambitions with their seminal event, the Martini Jump Skydive, was a "no-brainer" Ms. Bates says. The first Martini Jump Skydive, held in August of 2010 drew hundreds of women 50+ to participate in some capacity and garnered a host of local and national press. "It's such a unique experience. Everyone who hears about it can't help but get excited. It's empowering!" continues Ms Bates. The ladies are counting on the Facebook support of not only the women they serve, but family members and friends of all age groups.
Founded in 2009, Aging But DANGEROUS provides leadership and inspiration while offering tools: events, products, a blog and lots of other neat stuff to support women 50+ in stretching their horizons. Their events include the aforementioned skydive, fashion shows and even a colonoscopy party. Ms Ketcham and Ms Bates immediately recognized the power of social media and online tools to connect with their audience. The Aging but DANGEROUS website (www.agingbutdangerous.com) hosts a regularly updated blog and their Twitter account (@agingdangerous) reaches over 1,000 followers.
