Winner Pictures Launches Kickstarter Campaign for Distribution

Winner Pictures is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for distribution for their documentary 'Released' which about breaking the recidivism cycle.

In his State of the State address on January 8th 2014, Governor Cuomo announced that he would be using $5 million dollars to help 23 prison reentry and rehabilitation programs work towards minimizing prison recidivism (http://tinyurl.com/keg5y3h). The governor is working closely with the Council on Community Re-Entry and Reintegration to provide housing, health care and employment opportunities for those who have just been released.

Last May, a documentary film entitled Released, was produced by Winner Pictures and premiered at Quad Cinema in New York City's Greenwich Village. The film received positive reviews from The New York Times (http://tinyurl.com/lw5ucau) and The Daily News (http://tinyurl.com/m5letpo), and started an important conversation about the rising rate of recidivism. Now in the year of 2014, Winner Pictures is using that film to catapult this issue into conversation and challenge standing conventions.

Winner Pictures has been reaching out to many organizations, including The Council on Community Re-Entry and Reintegration, The Adirondack Foundation and The Anti-Recidivism Coalition as well as working closely with The Fortune Society to get the film seen by ex-offenders and policy makers alike. On Monday, January 24th Winner launched their Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to begin their next phase of distribution. In addition, they will be working with TUGG (http://www.tugg.com/events/7277) to further promote the film in Manhattan and fundraise for their campaign.

Recidivism is a problem that doesn't just affect those in jail or prison; it weighs heavily on all of society. From taxpayers to families with loved ones in prison, this is a problem that affects us all. Films like 'Released' play an important role in solving this problem at a time when political action is in motion and people are ready for change.
