Welsh Business Gears Up For Rally Support

A North Wales firm supplies the Wales GB Rally with ground protection mats and hopes more business will follow.

The Welsh Government has announced funding for Wales GB Rally for the next two years. The move to a base in Deeside in 2013 saw record crowds.

The move was also a positive step for businesses in North Wales including Ground Access Hire. The Denbighshire based company provided ground protection mats for the event which saw record numbers of spectators.

Wales Rally GB is due to return to Conwy County in November after a commitment of continued financial backing by the Welsh Government.

Economy minister Edwina Hart has pledged up to Ј1.5m for both 2014 and 2015.

Conwy County Council hired 500 mats and they were used as a temporary road access for supply vehicles to come on site. They were also used as a clean storage area for the competitors teams to store their equipment on a clean area.

Ground protection mats are vital for events such as the Wales GB Rally. Health and Safety has to be at the forefront of everyone's mind and protection mats are the perfect way to create a safe walkway. They will also protect the ground underneath. This is vital in muddy areas especially when wet weather can turn the conditions underfoot treacherous.

The mats come complete with a grip pattern to provide grip and reduce the build-up of mud. They have been used in the past by companies including JCB Ltd and for many outdoor events.

It has been claimed that the event in 2012 gave the region a multi-million pound boost. It attracted thousands of visitors to the area and was watched by 600 million TV viewers across the world.

Gwynfor Evans, spokesman for Ground Access Hire said the company was delighted to be associated with the rally.

"It was exiting for Ground Access Hire to be involved with such a prestigious event as Rally GB. We were fortunate that they required so many of them as a storage area around the perimeter of the area which was used by the teams supporting the competitors."

The rally began in Conwy and ended in Llandudno but the organisation's Headquarters were in Flintshire.

The event will be back in North Wales in November this year and Ground Access Hire hope they will be called upon again to supply their safety mats.
