Waste Management Austin Data Center Earns Energy Star Certification
Austin, TX, January 19, 2017 (Newswire.com) - Waste Management Austin Data Center Earns EPA’s ENERGY STAR® Certification for Superior Energy Efficiency.
Waste Management’s Austin Data Center has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) ENERGY STAR certification, which signifies that the building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency and meets strict energy efficiency performance levels set by the EPA.

"Through this achievement, we have demonstrated our commitment to minimize the environmental impact of Data Centers through energy efficient opportunities.”
Commercial buildings that earn EPA’s ENERGY STAR certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Waste Management improved its energy performance by managing energy strategically across the entire organization and by making cost-effective improvements to its building.

To earn the ENERGY STAR, Waste Management took the following actions:
Upgrade of Mechanical Cooling Equipment for the Data Center
Replacement of Servers in the Data Center to more Energy Efficient Equipment
Upgrade of Electrical Equipment supporting the Data Center
Waste Management, with the support of their partner Alcatex, Inc. also participates in the Better Building Challenge, a U.S. Department of Energy-led initiative that aims to improve the energy efficiency of Data Centers by 25% over the next 5 years.
