Washington School Assembly Showcase Highlights Area's Favorite Kidshow Performers & Educators
Online, August 22, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Top school assembly performers from around the state will gather to showcase their skills and promote their craft at the second annual Washington School Assembly Showcase at The Seattle Public Library on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from noon - 5:00 pm.
Parents, teachers, principals and others who books entertainment for children are invited to attend what organizer Jeff Evans describes as "the only showcase specifically designed to connect schools with quality assembly providers in our state."
"We're bringing together full-time professionals who motivate, entertain, and inspire students in schools," says Evans, an Olympia-based magician who's been performing educational shows throughout Washington state for 17 years.
Presenters at the Assembly Showcase hope to raise the profile of their unique medium which requires just the right mix of entertainment, instruction and, of course, an ability to work with kids. At their best, school assemblies can expose young audiences to a vast array of cultures, concepts and possibilities well beyond their immediate experience.
"In the past, some assemblies may have been more about entertainment than education," says Rick Hartman, a former classroom teacher who now shares science toy assemblies at schools around the state. But in recent years "the bar has been raised," Hartman says. "There are now incredibly talented authors, performers, scientists and professionals in all fields bringing world-class educational content to school assemblies in Washington."
While the Washington School Assembly Showcase is aimed at adults, children are welcome too. "We're aiming for a 'family fun night' atmosphere," Evans says.
"I really want to encourage parents and teachers to attend with their calendar and the goal to book one or more assemblies," Evans says. As an incentive, each attending school receives a coupon for $50 off their choice of one assembly. "The top pros in our area will be in the same place at the same time and people can take advantage of the opportunity to lock in a great program and save money," Evans says.
Currently scheduled presenters include the Pacific Science Center, juggler Alex Zerbe, Rick "Mr. Toymaker" Hartman (toy building workshops), Edumazement Motivational-Magic Programs (Rick Anderson and Jeff Evans), "Creative Writing Projects" (Buck and Elizabeth), Impact Presenter Greg Bennick, "W.E. C.A.R.E. Sports" (Mag Hughes and Don Fogle), Bobby Medina's "Mariachi Mexico", Eccentric Juggler Andrew Barden, and singer/songwriter Tim Noah.
The event is sponsored by The Seattle Public Library. Admission is free and the public is welcome. Showcase performances begin at 2:00 pm and run until 4:00 pm. To learn more or RSVP visit www.assemblyshowcase.com or call toll-free (877) 412-5064.
