Warriors at Ease Receives Organizational Grant From Disabled Veterans National Foundation

Funds new military sexual trauma initiative with $24,000

Warriors at Ease is honored to announce it has received an organizational grant from the Disabled Veterans National Foundation for $24,000, which will fund a new military sexual trauma initiative. This grant makes it possible for Warriors at Ease to implement an online training course geared toward meditation and certified yoga teachers teaching veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma.

Robin Carnes, Executive Director and co-founder of Warriors at Ease said, “There are distinct differences in the yoga and meditation methods needed to address victims of military sexual trauma versus those who have experienced other types of trauma. Not only does military sexual trauma have a specific set of symptoms, but men and women victims of this trauma have different preferences for structural and linguistic approaches in the classroom. A comprehensive psychological understanding of military sexual trauma is imperative in alleviating its symptoms and creating a safe space for students. We are thrilled that this grant will fund the staff as well as the clinical and technical partners needed to construct a scientifically-based, effective training program.”

Joseph VanFonda, CEO of the Disabled Veterans National Foundation said, “The military sexual trauma initiative of Warriors at Ease aligns with our mission to provide support to veterans who have been physically or psychologically wounded. We are proud to fund this initiative with Warriors at Ease, which will provide specialized assistance to these veterans and roll out this program to veteran and active duty support facilities around the nation.”

About the Disabled Veterans National Foundation

Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to provide critically needed support to disabled and at-risk veterans who leave the military wounded—physically or psychologically—after defending our safety and our freedom.

DVNF achieves this mission by:
•    Offering direct financial support to veteran organizations that address the unique needs of veterans, and whose missions align with that of DVNF.
•    Providing supplemental assistance to homeless and low-income veterans through the Health & Comfort program and various empowerment resources.
•    Providing an online resource database that allows veterans to navigate the complex process of seeking benefits that they are entitled to as a result of their military service, as well as additional resources they need.
•    Serving as a thought leader on critical policy issues within the veteran community, and educating the public accordingly.
