Walther Lutheran Announces a New Partnership with Concordia University Chicago

From This Partnership Expanded Programs, University Presence & Teacher Resources Will Result.

Mr. James Craven, Head of Schools for the Walther Lutheran High School Association, announced today that a new agreement with Concordia University Chicago has been formulated. This agreement replaces and significantly expands on the previous agreement between Concordia University Chicago and Walther Lutheran Academy. Over the next several months both Walther Lutheran Academy in Forest Park and Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park will see some changes as they each become a "Partner School of Concordia University Chicago."

There will be a noticeable increase in Concordia-Chicago education students at both WLA and WLHS as they student teach, work as teacher aides, observe classes, tutor individual students, present units or lessons, or help with special education and ESL programs. Methods classes may meet at the schools so they are in closer proximity to the students with whom they will be working.

Concordia University Chicago will be helping with teacher in-service opportunities and helping the high school in developing more opportunities for Walther students to earn college credit while still in high school. Both WLA and WLHS teachers will have access to the latest educational research and assistance in integrating that into the already exceptional programs. Opportunities for continuing education at Concordia will ensure that the faculty members will remain on the cutting edge in providing the finest education for every student.

"We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Walther Lutheran High School Association to benefit the students," said Dr. John F. Johnson, President of Concordia University Chicago. "Our relationship provides a great opportunity for our students to make a difference in the lives of others, while gaining hands-on experience by renowned faculty."

Mr. Craven sums it up this way, "This is a real win-win for all three institutions, but the biggest winners will be the students. Walther students will have more individual attention, the latest methodology, more opportunities to advance their education, and more opportunities for receiving help. The Concordia students will gain real world experiences in multi-cultural settings while learning from top-notch faculty members from all three schools."

This agreement brings Lutheran education in the near-west suburbs full-circle. Students will be the beneficiaries of the long Lutheran tradition of excellence in education from preschool to elementary, middle and high school through bachelor, master's and doctoral levels represented by these institutions. Caring Christian educational professionals will shepherd each student through every level of education within this partnership.
