New Smyrna Beach - The Vote on Taxes Committee congratulates the Florida legislature for passing a joint resolution which establishes Florida's demand for an Article V Amendment Convention for the purpose of proposing a U.S. Constitutional Amendment that would require a balanced federal budget, impose strict limits on new taxes and spending, and prohibit unfunded federal mandates on the states.

Florida joins nineteen other states calling for an Article V Amendment Convention to limit federal spending and require a balanced federal budget.

"Washington's uncontrolled spending and pattern of deficit financing is mortgaging our children and grandchildren's future," said Florida Senate President Jeff Atwater. "We must act and take control of our destiny or it will take control of us."

Floridians and Americans from across the political spectrum are concerned by the growing deficit and the inability of the Congress to reign in federal spending. This irresponsible deficit spending has led to a national debt of approximately $12.5 trillion.

The Vote on Taxes Committee is committed to adding the "Vote on Taxes" amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The official forecast is for the U.S. to run out of money by 2050 leading to a multi-generational economic decline.

David Biddulph, Co Founder of the Vote On Taxes Committee, stated, "Every Floridian who cares about passing to our children a prosperous America and a federal government that cannot constitutionally over spend, over tax and over borrow should thank their state legislator today. We call on every American who wants a fiscally sound and prosperous nation to call their legislator and candidates for state office to support and vote for the "Vote on Taxes Amendment" similar to the one approved today by the Florida Legislature"

The Vote on Taxes Committee sponsors the Constitutional Road to Prosperity, a weekly conference call of state legislators, economists, citizen groups, and lawyers working on model language for a Limited Amendment Convention that includes firewalls against a run-a-away convention.
The process of amending our Constitution is difficult, time consuming and needs the broad support of the American people. However, history has demonstrated that requiring voter approval of new taxes, spending and debt will ensure that future generations of Americans will enjoy significantly higher standards of living than if government continues to tax, spend, and borrow at will.

The Vote on Taxes Committee, (http://www.voteontaxes.org), is a non-partisan political group founded to promote fiscal responsibility by the federal government through an amendment to the U.S. Constitution requiring voter approval of new taxes.
