Veterans Automotive Summit 2017, Sponsored by Tti Global Advanced Veteran Hiring in the Automotive Industry

The Veteran Automotive Summit 2017, was held Friday Sept. 15, at Walsh College in Troy. Representatives from OEM's and major suppliers joined veteran advocates to build career pipelines in the automotive industry. The ESGR, Michigan Veteran Affairs, and TTi Global organized the summit which focused on careers in the auto industry.

TTi Global took a leadership role in the organization and sponsorship of this summit. Lori Blaker, President/CEO of TTi Global presided over the opening of the summit and commented on the significance of the event. “As a workforce development company, we understand the many benefits that veterans can bring to an organization.  It is important to build career pipelines between returning veterans and companies that wish to hire them. Bart Buechner, Vice Chair of the Michigan Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve served as the event’s moderator. Presentations and job forecasts were given by Jason Montgomery, Ford Motor Company, Derrick Hilbert, General Motors, Erin Johnson, Fiat-Chrysler American, Rob Ells, Roush and Dave Rice, Meritor. Steven Potter, Chief of Staff for the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency addressed the audience about the importance of developing career pipelines.

Additional organizations participating in the summit were: Michigan Works, Wayne State University, Oakland University, Northwood University, Walsh College and Macomb Community College. Each had representatives on-site to discuss career and study programs available to veterans.

TTi Global is taking a leadership role in advancing the conversation regarding veteran hiring initiatives. TTi Global earned its bronze-level veteran-friendly certification from the Michigan’s Veteran Affairs Agency last year.

Angela Shelby, Statewide Recruitment Coordinator for the State of Michigan, will discuss the very successful Michigan State Police “Troops to Troopers” program. Michigan State Police (MSP) partners with the Department of Military and Veteran Affairs for recruiting efforts specific to veterans.

Keith Nattress, General Motors Veteran and Military Affairs, will discuss their leading hiring and retention initiates that focus on veteran recruiting.  The discussion will examine the company’s commitment to providing veterans and their spouses' opportunities for career growth.
