Veteran-Owned Startup is Making Waves in the Technology Sector

SKEG, Inc. forms partnership with Faretech

SKEG, Inc.

Recently honorably-discharged veteran and professional mariner returns from a military deployment in the Northern Sinai to shake things up in the P2P boat rental service market.

SKEG, Inc., founded by Matthew Feehan, hits the ground running by partnering with transportation industry experts in technology, Faretech, to provide cloud software and mobile application technology for maritime professionals.

It is never safe to underestimate Mother Nature, she can provide beautiful, cloudless and picturesque charters one minute, then replace said scenery with a violent storm accompanied by zero visibility during the next. It is in everyone's best interest to ensure who we have behind the helms out there are of the utmost professional grade.

Not everyone’s a captain

P2P companies have claimed that they have “cracked the code” on boat-sharing for the maritime industry. With millions of dollars of revenue secured, that statement is difficult to refute. It seems that the “average joe” has successfully gained access to the coveted maritime industry through the click of a mobile application. However, there are some professionals within the maritime industry that feel there is room for improvement. Particularly, mariners who share the water with these companies’ “captains.”

The romantic notion of tossing a pirate hat on, surrounding yourself with scantily dressed, dancing women, and hitting the water for a fun-filled day on the water has been an unfortunate stigma associated with boating in recent years. Some companies have reinforced the stigma by highlighting the “perks” of boating, without mentioning the drawbacks, such as years of specialized, intense training.

The reality of the maritime industry is that to become a bonafide mariner, one must go through a significant amount of training and be comfortable accepting a certain amount of risk. One need only refer back to the 2015 boating incident in Long Island to understand the realities of said risk.

True captains deserve more

In return for years of dedicated work, professional mariners deserve the most advanced marketing tools available today to highlight and promote their hard-earned credentials. No longer will mariners be at the whim of transaction-based business models. With SKEG, professional mariners will have the ability to build and share a unique SKEG profile with the rest of the maritime community. Whether she or he is a 14-year engine department veteran or a new sailing instructor, each mariner will have the tools to showcase their unique abilities to the world and connect with other professionals in the industry.

A word from the founder

The SKEG platform is currently in development and spaces are limited to introductory pricing.
