Veteran Federal Investigator Joins Yarbrough Strategic Advisors
Online, September 23, 2009 (Newswire.com) - DALLAS - Yarbrough Strategic Advisors in Dallas has significantly bolstered its growing investigations group with the addition of longtime federal immigration investigator A.J. Irwin as the firm's Director of Investigations.
Yarbrough Strategic Advisors is the consulting arm of the Yarbrough Law Group in Dallas, founded by Matt Yarbrough.
Mr. Irwin will advise client companies on effective methods for complying with U.S. immigration laws and policies and show businesses how to avoid government audits and fines related to employment matters. Having worked with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Mr. Irwin brings an understanding of critical measures employers should take to protect themselves from ICE's newly formed philosophy of aggressively pursuing employers rather than illegal immigrants directly.
Mr. Irwin managed the federal Joint Terrorism Task Force and anti-smuggling operations for an 18-state region stretching from Canada to Mexico. He also led an investigation that resulted in the largest human-smuggling case ever prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney General. Another investigation resulted in the largest criminal fine imposed for immigration law violations against an employer.
Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Mr. Irwin played a key role in implementing policy changes and department reorganizations. He has taught and lectured extensively in the areas of smuggling, international security and employer sanctions, among others. With Yarbrough Strategic Advisors, his role will include the supervision of investigations into matters involving intellectual property, financial fraud and corporate compliance.
"A.J.'s unmatched base of knowledge of investigations and practices within the Department of Justice provides a huge benefit to our clients," says attorney Matt Yarbrough, founder of Yarbrough Strategic Advisors. "With A.J. and others on our team, we are able to offer invaluable expertise to employers who want to stay on top of the important changes in immigration law."
A government service veteran, Mr. Irwin helped create and implement important federal policies and worked on major domestic and international investigations for more than 26 years while working with the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, a forerunner of ICE, and later with ICE itself. He also worked with local law enforcement agencies as an investigator and undercover officer.
