Vamp & Burn to Smoulder On Oz Festival Stages
Samford, QLD, July 30, 2014 (Newswire.com) - Lola The Vamp's Vamp & Burn is a burlesque stage show with passion. Following a sensationally successful debut last year, the show has evolved rapidly to incorporate a set and storyline - featuring Lola's larger-than-life burlesque props and spawning a band, called Irresolute. Woven in are passionate and off-the-cuff burlesque shows, keeping both performers and audiences on the edge of their seats!
Vamp & Burn plays the Brisbane Fringe Festival at Black Bear Lodge on August 17, followed by the Docklands Arts, Laughs and Blues Festival in Melbourne’s Wonderland Spiegeltent on October 4.
Lola The Vamp brings her firebrand headlining burlesque that has been scandalising audiences worldwide for over a decade. A ground-breaking performer with a PhD in the art, Lola has set this year’s show in the French Quarter of New Orleans, at a turn-of-the-century cabaret.
A cast of powerful burlesque stars have been selected from across the wide brown land of Australia, with a special guest dancer all the way from Paris. Each dancer is cast for their ability to improvise - an element that adds a sense of drama to the show. For the Brisbane Fringe, Lila Luxx brings her trademark lyrical burlesque, honed from years of classical and contemporary training, while Delilah Devereaux brings the experience earnt only by unwisely spending a few glorious years in the nightspots of Pigalle. The Speigeltent show sees Sydney’s infamous Baby Blue Bergman - a woman who would have been the muse of Serge Gainsbourgh or Andy Warhol had she lived in the swinging 60s. Joining her is Melbourne’s Evie Red, a sex-on-legs performer with an infectious joy upon the stage.
With Lola doing double-duties and also providing the music with her band Irresolute, expect husky stories of love, loss, melancholy and no regrets! It’s blues meets ye-ye meets Tarantino as the story of a showgirl and her gambling man is loosely told through some of the most famous French pop of the 20th Century as well as Irresolute’s own sensual and dark original compositions. Irresolute is an offshoot of Desert Blues Cartel which features blues renegade Dick Desert and Violin virtuoso Ellen Stancombe (The Red Paintings). Lola's collaboration with these musicians saw her first single, Ma Cherie, released earlier this year. See, and hear it all at the show.
