UC Irvine Extension Announces New Summer Organizational Leadership Courses

Summer organizational leadership courses at UC Irvine Extension will help participants acquire better communication processes in virtual organizations

University of California, Irvine Extension announces the availability of two new organizational leadership courses, which are part of its Organizational Leadership & Communication Certificate Program. The online classes, titled, "Virtual or Remote Management and Communication" and "Concise Writing" will be offered during summer quarter. Participants will have the opportunity to learn communication processes in virtual organizations and develop strong writing skills necessary for effective communication, especially with the advent of new technologies.

Summer Courses:
Virtual or Remote Management and Communication (July 1 - August 11) - This online course will focus on communication processes in virtual organizations and how to build, manage, and lead virtual teams. This class will also focus on the impact of distance and diversity on processes and outcomes as well as examine culturally diverse practices in a global environment. The course instructor is Thomas McCluskey, a business advisor at the California Small Business Development Center and the president of 551 Productions. He has more than 20 years experience in media sales, sales management and executive leadership.

Concise Writing (August 12 - September 22) - This online course will take an audience centered approach for preparing and writing messages considering the objective of the message and the organizational context for maximum impact. The course will also focus on choosing the most appropriate writing medium based on the message, the objective, and the audience. The course instructor is Jason Goldman, a communication specialist with Southern California Edison (SCE). At SCE, Goldman is the lead communicator for a 600+ person organization, developing all forms of communication materials.
