TV Execs Offer Hope To College Blogger At NATPE Conference
Online, March 30, 2010 (Newswire.com) - When 21 year old blogger, Britt Hysen, a CSUN business undergrad discovered NATPE (National Association of Television Programming Executives) was offering a student discount on their annual conference fees she jumped at the opportunity to attend with the intention of gaining valuable insight from the Entertainment industry's top media executives. What Hysen gained, in fact, was a whole lot more. Her adventure put her within feet of media powerhouse Michael Eisner, Madison Avenue legend, Irwin Gotlieb, NBC Chairman, Jeff Gaspin, Discovery Communications CEO, David Zaslav, TV showrunners Bill Lawrence, Steve Levitan, Jonathan Prince, and David E. Kelley, and webisode producers, Justine Bateman and Illeana Douglas among others. "I was fortunate to hear first hand from industry leaders, but even more excited to blog their professional advice to my film student friends who want to become producers. My webisode, Behind the Scene with Britt Hysen, is a serendipitous by-product of attending NATPE," Hysen beamed.
Hysen decided to video the conference after discovering that her Christmas gift- a 12.2 megapixel camera- had the ability to record video with remarkable clarity AND fit into her pocket. She explained what took place, "I had just invested in a laptop for my blog that came bundled with a video editing program. When I imported footage from the camera, I quickly realized the potential of both devices. Up to that point, my blog had been limited to words and photos. By combining the digital tools, I became a content producer!"
Coincidently, that was the message the producers of NATPE had hoped to instill in conference attendees. From Zaslav to Eisner, there was a consensus on the future of media. And while each keynote speaker and panelist had their own prospective on the subject, the message was similar. "Create it, and put it on YouTube," Zaslav declared. "We are constantly looking for new material, and YouTube is where we've been drawing our content." Hysen laughs at the irony, "Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I don't think he realized he was being videoed by a Millennial who was minutes away from uploading his message!"
NATPE is best known for bringing the television industry together to share ideas, and to discover new technologies and strategies in the promotion of content. In addition, a marketplace is available to production companies seeking distribution for their completed properties. Recent years, however, have proved challenging with the growth of the Internet, the evolution of the distribution model, and the uncertainty of revenue streams. "Michael Eisner said he will never go back to broadcast," Hysen reveals, "and that broadband is the future. As a member of Generation Y, I believe I have an advantage over producers who are less flexible and resistant to change."
Hysen's blog which includes in-depth advice from the media leaders at NATPE, and her webisode, Behind the Scene with Britt Hysen is available on her official website, www.SceneWithBritt.com. Videos from the event, including pertinent interviews with Social Media consultant, David Bloom, 3-D producer with I.E. Effects, Sarah Bavero, and Dru Johnston, Marketing Manager for Twistage, an online video platform are available on both her website and YouTube: NATPE 2010- BRITT HYSEN.
