TUV India Inaugurates Its World Class, State-Of-The-Art Laboratory & New Office Premises.

Pune: TUV India inaugurated a truly advanced laboratory for the testing of agricultural & processed food, materials, animal feed, pharmaceutical & cosmetics products, as per national & international standards.

In a glittering function attended by many leading Industrial Houses, and amid the sounding of the traditional "Tutari", Dr. Guido Rettig, Chairman of the Board of TÜV NORD, inaugurated TUV India's state-of-the-art laboratory & office, which houses some of the most advanced analytical equipments in the world. During the inauguration, he also announced the launching of a "Centre of Excellence for Food Safety" at the 20,000 square feet facility.

TUV India, which provides services to several thousand customers in India and neighboring countries, is already well established as one of the oldest & largest technical service provider of independent, neutral, third party services like various ISO certifications, Inspection Services, Training Courses, Validation & Verification of carbon mitigation projects (CDM), testing and certification of consumer & industrial products, as well as vehicles and vehicle components and aggregates.

Dr. Rettig spoke of "the advent of Indian Food Safety Revolution" and vowed to "support local Industry & Regulators to meet global standards." He also said that "the centre will help Indian exporters to access markets worldwide through ethical, reliable and world-class testing, certification & training services and will offer end to end solutions from the farm to fork."

India, in spite of being one of the world's largest producers, presently processes only about 3-4% of the total production of food. A large portion of the food produced is wasted, due to the lack of adequate infrastructure like cold storage and supply logistics. As such, there remains tremendous opportunity for India to fulfill its Food Security requirements. With India emerging as a major global economy, an increasing awareness & curiosity about Indian products, and a large Indian diaspora spread across the world, there is also a huge latent opportunity for India to become one of the major sourcing hubs for its various produce and ethnic food items. However, there is a large gap in terms of meeting international standards and expectations.

Mr. Wolfgang Mecke, Chairman of TUV India, said that TUV India house emphasizes the Group's slogan: "Making our World Safer". We can only help to make our day to day life safer and our life a little more enjoyable by helping to protect the environment.

According to Mr. Anil Rairikar, Managing Director, TUV India, "with the implementation of the new Food Safety & Standards Act, Indian Industry needs the services of accredited, third party testing laboratories more than ever before. Globally, food safety concerns go much beyond routine quality testing, and products are now tested for safety aspects like pesticide residues, toxins, dioxins, antibiotic& hormone residues etc, which requires very sophisticated capabilities. TUV India is confident of fulfilling this need through its NABL, APEDA, FSSAI and AGMARK approved laboratory. The laboratory will shortly also be seeking EIC, BIS, FDA AND German QS approvals, amongst others."
