Trust Stamp Makes Facebook's Marketplace an Even Safer Place

Facebook’s Marketplace is designed as a safer and more user-friendly alternative to sites such as Craigslist, requiring users to have a Facebook profile and forbidding items such as guns, adult services, alcohol, animals, etc.  Atlanta Technology Village based startup Trust Stamp offers users the ability to ensure that they only deal with trusted counterparties.

Trust Stamp creates a user-initiated, digital identity complete with a verified photograph, legal name, and color-coded Trust Score by comparing a secure-selfie of the user with driver’s license, social media and public records data including criminal background databases.  Trust Stamp’s process utilizes proprietary proof of liveness and AI technologies.  The Trust Stamp token is created and controlled by the creator who has absolute discretion as to how and when it is shared.

Marketplace's core role is efficiently connecting buyers and sellers and Trust Stamp complements that by making Marketplace a safer and more transparent platform even for transactions between complete strangers

Scott Francis, Chief Technology Officer

Registering for a Trust Stamp takes sub-2 minutes and subsequent uses take less than 30 seconds. Creating a Trust Stamp is free for the maker with the viewer paying a transaction cost of only $1.99, a fraction of the cost of traditional background checks.

Trust Stamp CEO, Andrew Gowasack said, “We have surveyed tens of thousands of P2P platform users and consistently find over 50% of participants enthusiastic about using an identity & trustworthiness verification tool such as Trust Stamp. For less than the price of a cup of coffee, users gain comfort that they are not unduly exposed to the risk of financial loss or even threats to their personal safety”.

Trust Stamp CTO, Scott Francis said, “Facebook is a champion of third party developers with a history of promoting transparency and online authenticity. Marketplace’s core role is efficiently connecting buyers and sellers and Trust Stamp complements that by making Marketplace a safer and more transparent platform even for transactions between complete strangers”.

Trust Stamp is currently offered for US Marketplace use as a web application with international, iPhone and Android applications scheduled for early 2017.
