Online, March 26, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Quartet lead by Award-winning singer, songwriter, and pianist Tracy Kash Thomas will appear on Friday, April 2 at 8:00p.m. as part of the First Friday series at the Village Theatre at Cherry Hill, 50400 Cherry Hill Road, Canton. Tracy was recognized with a Detroit Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Vocalist (2009) and has been nominated for numerous others including Outstanding Jazz Composer, R&B Composer, R&B Vocalist, Modern Jazz Band, Jazz Instrumentalist (piano) and in 2007 for Outstanding Jazz Album for her release, There and Back Again. Ian Anderson, of Jethro Tull fame, enamored of her classical bent and rock sensibility, invited her on stage as a guest flutist at his 2003 State Theater concert.
Her unique brand of jazz and jazz-influenced rock/pop crosses music genre boundaries and thrills live audiences as well as her growing radio following. Thomas released her second CD, There and Back Again in July 2006. This collection of original tunes represents the variety of genres in which Thomas has shown she can comfortably and quite ably immerse herself, including swing, Latin jazz, R&B/smooth jazz, and roots rock. Her first CD titled Some Strong Potion, was released in 2000 to rave reviews. Thomas, an accomplished flautist, began her musical life as a classical musician. She comes armed with a Bachelor's degree from University of North Texas - a veritable jazz factory producing musicians such as Lou Marini and Stefan Karlsson - and a Master's degree from the venerable Boston Conservatory. Add her impeccable songwriting, arranging and production talents to the mix and it is easy to see why she is an established musician's musician in her native Detroit, where she currently lives, as well as in her previous hometown, New York City.
Tracy's song entitled "Home" can be heard on the CD ROM, which accompanies The Complete Idiot's Guide to MP3. Her extensive media exposure in New York and Detroit includes the nationally broadcast Mitch Albom Show (WJR AM) and Aubrey Lee's show (WVMV FM, Detroit's Smooth Jazz), WHFR, WCSX, and WEMU. In addition, she has done considerable radio and television jingle work nationwide. Tracy can be heard on the 1999 release of gravelly popular NYC great, Alan Andrews, entitled Cleaned and Pressed. Her third CD, Sound Truth, is due out in early April with a CD release show planned for April 24 at the Trinity House Theatre.
