Toyota And Honda Lead Recalls For 2012

Toyota and Honda are leading the pack for recalls in 2012, but despite the setbacks sales are flourishing.

It looks as though Honda and Toyota are running into issues with having multiple recalls of their vehicles in 2012. The autos are being recalled for a variety of issues ranging from fire hazards to safety belt problems.

The Toyota Tacoma pickup truck is just the latest to undergo a recall. 140,000 Tacoma's have been recalled for corrosion issues that could be so problematic that it could lead to space tires falling off while driving. Toyota has also recalled several other problems for similar issues in the past.

The announcement of the Tacoma recall comes just one month after Toyota announced that it would have to recall 7.5 million autos worldwide because of faulty power window controls that run the risk of catching fire. 2.5 million of those recalled vehicles were sold in the United States. That announcement was closely followed by Honda's announcement of three different safety callbacks on 1.7 million vehicles worldwide.

Both of the automakers have led the pack on recalled vehicles over the past three years. Toyota had a plethora of recalls in 2009 and 2012 because of is problems with unintended accelerations. Honda had massive recalls in 2011 for a slew of problems including non-working airbags.

But for all of their recalls, 2012 shows that the sales for Toyota and Honda aren't hurting. Both retailers have experienced some of their largest sales gains in years. Many potential Honda and Toyota customers are still buying vehicles and even seemed to have waited for manufacturing to pick back up after the Japanese earthquake and tsunami which left Honda and Toyota with product shortages.
