Touring Cyclists Encourage Their Generation To Be Active and Healthy
Online, May 19, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Too many members of the X and Y Generation are stuck behind their computers, playing video games, or watching TV. But thanks to the combined efforts of some long-distance bicycle travelers, three young woman have now received the funds they need to cycle across the country and educate young girls about the importance of being active and eating healthy.
With the increased cost of gasoline in automobiles, more Americans are deciding to explore their country and their immediate area by bicycle, and they're flocking to the website at ww.bicycletouringpro.com for advice.
Darren Alff of Bicycle Touring Pro recently asked his readers to submit a short paragraph or two explaining why they should be the recipient of the 2ND Annual Bicycle Touring Pro Travel Scholarship - a scholarship created to help young, first time bicycle tourists get their start in the world of bicycle travel and at the same time "make a difference" in the world.
On April 26, 2011, Darren gave away his Bicycle Touring Pro Travel Scholarship to three young women who are leaving at the end of May to travel across the United States on their bicycles via the famous Transamerica bicycle trail - a bike path that stretches more than 4,200 miles from the East Coast of the United States to the West Coast. Along the way, the women will be working to inspire young girls to get outside...get active...and eat healthy, local foods.
In order to achieve this goal, the women have teamed up with the Girl Scouts of America and they have plans to stop and interact with several Girl Scout troops across the country as they slowly make their way across the nation on their bikes.
