Tooth Fairy Mobile Dental Service and North Miami Beach Dental Team Up to Hold Free Dental Care Event for Low-Income Children

Miami Give Kids A Smile Day Event sponsored by Tooth Fairy Mobile Dental Service & North Miami Beach Dental offers free dental cleanings, exams for children on February 9th, 2013 from 1-5pm at North Miami Beach Dental at 2040 NE 163rd St Suite 206.

Many kids do not receive the proper dental care. A number of children in US have never been to the dentist. However, Tooth Fairy Mobile Dental Service and North Miami Beach Dental are making an effort to change situation by providing free dental care to kids as part of the annual Give Kids a Smile Day started by the American Dental Association (ADA).

North Miami Beach Dental and Tooth Fairy Mobile Dental Service is teaming up to sponsor a local Give Kids A Smile Event in North Miami Beach. The event will be held on Saturday, February 15th, 2013 from 1-5pm at North Miami Beach Dental where local dentist, Dr. Wendy Swanson, and dental volunteers will perform free children teeth cleanings and exams and inform parents and kids about importance of taking care of their teeth. Dental professionals will talk to kids about the importance of oral hygiene and teach proper brushing and flossing techniques.

Initiated in 2003, Give Kids a Smile is the centerpiece of February's National Children's Dental Health Month. The event began in part to help provide dental care for children whose families may not have direct access to regular dental care. Limited reimbursement provided by state and federal governments for oral health programs is a growing problem that contributes to the lack of access to dental care.

"Our main goal during our Give Kids a Smile Day Event is to educate children and parents about the importance of dental care and how to perform proper oral hygiene at home" said event organizer Nichole Huffman, "Not only is it a fun event, but more importantly it's great that unprivileged kids to get a chance to obtain necessary dental care."

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that tooth decay is the most common chronic childhood infectious disease in the U.S., five times more common than asthma and seven times more common than hay fever.

The ADA advises that children have a dental exam within six months of the eruption of the first tooth and no later than the first birthday. It is important that children are examined for tooth decay and other problems, and the dentist can demonstrate how to clean the child's teeth properly and how to evaluate any adverse habits such as thumbsucking.

Give Kids A Smile Day Event will be held on Saturday, February 9th, 2013 from 1-5pm. Doors open at 12:30. Appointments are first come first served. To find out more information on Give Kids A Smile Day contact North Miami Beach Dental at 305-760-2740 or email info@ToothFairyMobile.com.
