Time To Close The Renewable Energy Skills Gap

An important event about climate change and the Renewable Energy sector is to be held on 18th November 2010, aimed at anyone involved or who would like to become involved in providing training and qualifications for the Renewable Energy sector.

The College of North West London, Skills2Learn and partners are calling on all those who care about climate change and the Renewable Energy sector to attend a free and very important event on the 18th November 2010 at the College's campus in Dollis Hill, Willesden.

The event is aimed at anyone involved, or who would like to become involved, in providing training and qualifications for the Renewable Energy Sector.

The express need for training has been raised after Chris Huhne, the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, stated in his speech to the TUC annual climate change conference on 11th October 2010, that over a million people will be employed in low-carbon goods and services by 2015.

In this respect this sector cannot afford to rest on its laurels and must seek to up-skill and continue to develop professionally. It must also provide a path ahead for young adult learners who are seeking to forge a career in this sector.

This event will therefore provide up to date information, news and views on training, qualifications and accreditation through the two Sector Skills Councils involved (SummitSkills and EU Skills), BRE (Building Research Establishment), The Solar Trade Association and Ground Source Heat Pumps Association.

Dr Majid Al-Kader, managing director of Skills2Learn, said: "This is a huge challenge and opportunity which we must prepare for now, rather than later.

"Working alongside the College of North West London we aim to bring together established and aspiring knowledge in this sector and to set a precedent by preparing and organising our sector for the vital work it must undertake in the future."

Martin Biron, head of school for construction at the College of North West London, said: "We are delighted to host this timely event. The renewable energy skills agenda is an important matter which the college has identified as a priority for the years ahead. We look forward to welcoming delegates and sharing views and knowledge on this vital issue."
