This Week in LegalRideshare: Fatalities, Fraud and Female Riders

Accidents on the rise, the return of vomit fraud and female riders express their concerns. Legalrideshare breaks it down.

Monday 4/8

Think rideshare is saving lives? Think again. Marketwatch posted a story about a rise in deadly accidents and noted: "3% rise in serious and deadly accidents in major American cities once ride-hail platforms are introduced, according to new findings from researchers at Rice University in Houston, Texas and the University of Chicago Booth School of Business."

Tuesday 4/9

The Verge featured an article talking about "Uber Vouchers." Uber goes into detail on how it works: "Companies can create customized Voucher campaigns and programs within a specified budget, set pick-up and drop-off locations and an established time for an offer. All details can be tailored to an event, promotion or service. Businesses can send vouchers to their customers through email, social media and mobile messaging."

Wednesday 4/10

Vomit fraud is back. Or perhaps, it never went away. ABC7 in Los Angeles just posted a story about a California couple getting scammed over vomit fraud. The woman explained: "I get a notification from Lyft that I'm being charged a $100 damage fee," she explained. "The driver was claiming that we threw up in his vehicle. I was really upset and I thought this is a mistake right off the bat."

Thursday 4/11

Mashable posted an important story on what to do if passengers are ever harassed by their driver. Some key takeaways include: "After the ride, in the Lyft app you can report driver behavior in the 'Get Help' section. The woman got in touch with Lyft's 24/7 safety team, which is always an option on the Lyft website, even mid-ride."

Friday 4/12

There's no shortage of rideshare concerns, but female passengers may have it the hardest. In a Chicago Tribune article, women came forward discussing their concerns with the rideshare platforms. Attorney and co-founder of LegalRideshare Bryant Greening was also interviewed: "It's important to know that you are in the back of a stranger's car," Greening said. "This feels like a very comfortable experience and something we have welcomed into our everyday life, but at the end of the day you need to stay vigilant."

LegalRideshare wishes everyone a safe and happy weekend.
