The Upper Room Seeks Food Drive Donations To Keep Up With Demand
Online, February 1, 2013 (Newswire.com) - The Upper Room, a Family Resource Center in Derry, is calling upon the Southern New Hampshire community to help support local families by contributing to its food drive this February. The Upper Room's food pantry serves the Greater Derry area, and offers nutritious meal options to those in need. The pantry is open weekly, and allows families access to a wide range of healthy food staples.
120 families are fed every month by The Upper Room's food pantry, and the agency has seen an increase in the need for additional donations. Kimberly Bavaro, Executive Director of The Upper Room, stated that, "We always see a surge in generous donations around the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays, but contributions quickly taper off with the beginning of a new year. Given that hunger is a year-round concern for many families, we are working to make sure we have an adequate supply to address their needs."
Items sought after include pasta, sauce, peanut butter, canned proteins such as tuna, chicken, and beans, shelf stable milk, cereal, macaroni and cheese, and ready-to-make dinners. The Upper Room also encourages those interested to call to see what's needed. Donations will be accepted from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM daily at The Upper Room; 36 Tsienneto Road, Derry, NH. A marked donation box will be placed in the agency's back entrance vestibule.
This food drive is a part of the agency's monthly donation drive in 2013. Every month, The Upper Room will announce a new category of items in need, from school supplies, to program snacks, and personal care items. All items will be used to support families in need.
