The Presence of the Aspen Art Museum Will Change the Face Aspen Commercial Real Estate

The new Aspen Art Museum, scheduled to open late summer of 2014, is an iconic style building designed by renowned architect Shigeru Banand is sure to transform Aspen.

This new, iconic building designed by the world renowned architect, Shigeru Ban, will be the impetus to return our community back to the days when all walks of life mingled in the pubs and on the streets appreciating the arts, the views and the spectacular environment with which we are blessed. Those big jets and mini castles have become solitary places of refuge for the rich and famous. Let's welcome the residence back into town to enjoy those elements we all enjoy. And when they arrive to see the amazing architecture and art within the museum, let's invite them into the stores, the eateries and the art galleries (totaling now some 80+). We are here in Aspen to rejoice at the natural beauty and enjoy the fresh air and exercise of these beautiful mountains. Aspen is an amazing destination which tends to draw all sorts of characters from many walks of life, mostly with the entrepreneurial spirit and sense of freedom like no other place. It is time to embrace this building as what it was meant to be, a place of celebration of the arts.

For 33 years the Power Plant on the banks of the Roaring Fork River has served the mission of the organization well, fostering a program of art, dialogue, and creativity that has grown into a major cultural institution serving Aspen, the Roaring Fork Valley, the region, and the world.

AAM has become certified under a jointly run City of Aspen Environmental Health Department and Canary Initiative "ZGreen" program. Environmental efforts undertaken by the AAM through the program include recycling, composting, and zero waste. Among the obvious amenities, the Art Museum offers free admission, the only public rooftop with panoramic views, activities and workshops, and a Black Box Theatre. This is a true hand's on organization engaging our children and students of all ages.

The Aspen Art Museum has an expansive outreach program collaborating with other Aspen area non-profits, businesses, community institutions and organizations, including: Anderson Ranch Arts Center, Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, Aspen Historical Society, Aspen Institute, Aspen Ideas Festival, Aspen Music Festival and School, Aspen Writer's Foundation, Aspen Young Professional Association, City of Aspen Community Development Department, Colorado Mountain College, GrassRoots TV12, Pitkin County Jail, and Pitkin County Library.

Plans for their official opening are slated for Saturday, August 9, 2014 with a free, 24-hour event planned in conjunction with the AAM's 35th year of presenting internationally renowned contemporary art. The inaugural exhibitions for the new building are by Yves Klein and David Hammons, an unprecedented coupling in the modern art world. Additional artists throughout the 33,000 square- include: Shigeru Ban: Humanitarian Architecture, TommaAbts, Rosemarie Trockel, Jim Hodges, and CaiGuo-Qiang.

The construction of the Aspen Art Museum on the corner Spring Street and Hyman Avenue has already enlivened the east side of town breathing fresh air in to the buildings and enlivening the streets in that quadrant. As it begins to pull the shopping around the corner from Galena, it will be fun to see what stores emerge in the new buildings along Hyman. Hang on townsfolk, the transformation has begun! Kruger and Company Commercial Real Estate (www.krugerandcompany.com) wants to congratulate AAM on its new space and invite the community to embrace the new museum and celebrate what it truly is and what it will mean to Aspen into the future!
