The Mists of Pandaria Pet Battle System

The pet battle system is one of the biggest changes coming to Mists of Pandaria. Learning how it works and can be used is important for players who want to dominate the game.

One of the biggest and most anticipated changes coming to World of Warcraft's Mists of Pandaria is the Pet Battle system. Every character of every class will be able to adopt pets that can assist and participate in battles. Of course, to do so, you'll first have to earn the right.

This comes through training via a short series of quests given by a Battle Pet Trainer, which is located in every major establishment of Azeroth. It will cost some money and some time, but once you gain the ability to keep and train pets, you'll be able to use a variety of little critters as your sidekicks. A whole system of training, battle, healing, and reviving is in place for Battle Pets with the Mists release.

Acquiring new pets is done in one of two ways: you buy one or you capture one. Wild pets, as they are called, roam most of the zones of World of Warcraft and any of them can be captured and trained. With your Pet Journal, you can have more than one available as you gain confidence as a pet trainer. In the beginning, you have only one, but this increases over time (when pets reach level 3, you get a new slot, another at 5, and so on).

Speaking of levels, your pets gain experience and thus levels and increased abilities as they train and quest with you. At maximum, a pet will be level 25 and have three abilities (out of a total of 6).

As you play through Mists of Pandaria by referencing http://wowmistofpandariaguide.com, you'll find that some quests actually require that you have a pet, or are at least a lot easier if you do. Your pet can take on enemy pets and even the pets of other players. Each type of pet as well as its individual characteristics (abilities, level, etc) has strengths and weaknesses, so choose the pet for the occasion wisely. Some regions will have many of a certain type of mob in them, so an appropriate pet can help tremendously.

Combat is fairly simple. It's a turn-based system with its own special UI for this. You can switch pets mid-battle, but it uses a turn, thus giving the opposition a "freebie." So swapping has a penalty to go with the gain it may include. When turns come around, you and your pet can choose abilities and play them out against the opponent. The player character's moves (if any) happen first, followed by their pet. If a pet is bested, an option to swap is given if any other pets are available to step in. Otherwise, the battle is lost.

Experience is meted out according to participation, skill level, and how tough the battle was. A pet that didn't participate receives only a very small share of XP and a pet that is used, but outbalances the competition heavily (say a level 6 versus a level 2) also receives little XP. Take in reference in the http://www.pandarialevelingguide.net/uncategorized/learn-how-to-tame-pet-in-wow-mists-of-pandaria-guide/ here, in the opposite case, where a tougher opponent was bested by your pets of lower level (for the most part, at least), XP will be higher for those participants who were lower level.

It's a good system overall and adds a lot to the game, though some players will not like it and will be uninterested. At the very least, it adds a fun dimension of player vs player (PvP) that wasn't there before.

Blizzard's next expansion is scheduled to be release late this fall 2012.
