The Lightening Thief Lands 6th Grade Students In The Principals Office
Online, April 28, 2011 (Newswire.com) - After reading Rick Riordan's The Lightening Theif and studying Greek Mythology in class, several 6th grade students at LaSalle Language Academy were inspired to write their own mythological novels. The students have collaboratively written several volumes of mythology with a modern day voice, as Mr. Riordan has.
"I am proud of my son and his friends to come up with this creative writing method on their own and I encouraged him" says a mother of one of the boys. What never occured to the students or their parents was that the Greek Mythology subject matter was considered inappropriate to write about by the school's administration.
The students that were "caught" writing about their novels received misconducts for inappropriate behavior. The very subject matter the students learned about in school has landed them with records of misconduct that will follow them to High School.
