The Itch List Urges Members to Disconnect From Their Site on Leap Day

Social networking site, the Itch List, is urging its members to disconnect from all social media this leap day, including their own site. They are encouraging people to step out instead to fulfil the little things they have been itching to achieve.

2016 as everyone knows, is a Leap Year and with an extra day coming up this Monday, The Itch List believes that everyone has one more chance - 24 extra hours to get out there and scratch off one’s itch - like start cycling, connect with an old teacher, do a heritage walk to explore their own city or perhaps do take that long pending road trip.

There is a marked evolution in the way people want to spend their weekends, their resources and overall creating a work-life balance. Gone are the days when people thought pursuing a hobby was a distraction. Trends show that people want to make time periodically to do the little things in life.

"The Itch List is leading by example and taking a strong stand by encouraging members to stay away from social media for a day including from our own website."

Smriti Modi, Founder & CEO

2016 will see more resources being channelised towards this shift in approach. Corporate houses are also encouraging employees to pursue personal interests. There are events, programs, partnerships designed around people taking up hobbies - like running clubs, paper quilling workshops, bar-tending classes, food trails to explore in your own city - it’s like a whole new machinery evolving around pursuing your dreams today and not waiting till you retire.

Technology and social media, including the company’s own site ‘TheItchList.com’ has been a great enabler in engaging people in new activities, traveling more and connecting with more people. Having said that, social media sites can also get addicting. Thus the need to take time out on days like these and actually DO the things one dreams of. "The Itch List is leading by example and taking a strong stand by encouraging members to stay away from social media for a day including from our own website", says it's Founder, Smriti Modi

This year seems to have an increased fervour on making the Leap Day count!  Here’s what’s trending:
Divya, a 28 year old banker from Gurgaon, plans to go on a food trail in Delhi with her friends Monday evening - exploring Parathewaali Gali, Kareem’s for kebabs and their favorite chaat of Shahjahan Road.
Elton, who works with an IT company in Mumbai, plans to catch up with two of his friends who he has met in 4 years (or more, he thinks) and incidentally, one of them is a leaping - born on Feb 29!
Suruchi, an MBA student also from Mumbai, had an interesting plan for Monday. Last Leap Day in 2012, Suruchi and her friends had got together and created a time capsule. They decided to ditch emails and made hand written letters to themselves and sealed them away in envelopes. This Monday, 4 years since that day, they plan to open those letters together!

Doing a random act of kindness, trying a new recipe or exploring their own city are some of the other things that are trending on the Itch List in anticipation of the leap day. With so many little things on everyone’s list, the Itch List reminds its members with 86,440 extra seconds in this year - they should not spend those on social media but disconnect, get out there and make it count!
