The Golf Hip Turn - One Of The Keys Of A Solid Golf Swing

In order to hit consistently solid golf shots you need to master the proper golf hip turn. This enables you to generate and release power by coiling and uncoiling your body. Learn how to do this, and find out about a new hip rotation training aid.

Being able to execute a proper golf hip turn is vital for playing consistent and powerful golf. In order to generate any power in a golf shot it's essential to generate torsion in your body by coiling and uncoiling around an imaginary central axis. Proper hip rotation is vital for achieving this.

The article below explains the mechanics of a proper golf hip turn, and provides a simple drill to help you to execute it properly. It also discusses a simple hip rotation training aid that has recently come onto the market - the Tempo Teacher.

Develop A Powerful Base:

YOU CAN'T GENERATE power without hip turn, and you can't move the hips properly on the downswing without firing your right side.

But right-side motion must travel from the ground up. For right-handed golfers, it begins by kicking in the right foot and knee. This drives the legs, which in turn drive the hips, which propel the rest of the body and the club through impact.

Many amateurs have power problems because they think firing the right side means starting the downswing from the top - with the right arm and right shoulder. The result is an over-the-top swing path, which prevents the hips from turning properly and produces a weak slice.

Unhappy with this result, some over-the-top swingers overcompensate by tucking the right arm too close to the body on the downswing and sliding the hips laterally, a combination that blocks the ball well right of the target.

Or they try taming the right side by keeping the majority of their weight on the right leg and stabbing at the ball with their arms and hands, another move that only diminishes power.

Tempo Teacher - Hip Rotation Training Aid:

"Tempo Teacher Helps Golfers Hit Longer, Straighter Shots."

Tempo Teacherâ„¢, a new golf training aid designed to improve hip rotation on the downswing, helps golfers learn to hit longer, straighter golf shots.

This innovative product was designed and developed by cousins Phillip and Conor Butts in Dallas, Texas in 2010 and is now available.

Tempo Teacher is a very simple, lightweight, and easy to use aid. It clips to the golfer's belt or pants, perpendicular to the target line. The product helps lead the hips through the swing, keeping the arms and body "in sync". After a few swings, most golfers find that their hip rotation improves as well as the quality of their golf shots. Shots are longer, straighter and more accurate.

PGA golf professional and two-time NTPGA Teacher of the Year Tim Cusick endorses Tempo Teacher as getting results for golfers of all ages and abilities. According to Cusick:

"Tempo Teacher is an easy to use training aid that provides immediate results to golfers of all skill levels. In a full swing or short game shot, Tempo Teacher guides you through the downswing to the finish. Tempo Teacher has helped my students and me play better golf."

Says Christian Kirchner, Germany's Ranked Top 5 PGA Instructor:

"Tempo Teacher has helped my students get the correct feeling of the hips, club and body turning through the shot. It's simple and a good way to increase the speed of your swing."

And PGA Director of Instruction at Thunder Canyon Golf Club David LaFata agrees, saying:

"Practicing with the Tempo Teacher will result in a more consistent golf swing and impact position resulting in a lower handicap."
