There are eleven coaches of the Golden Chariot each gets its name from the dynasties that reigned over Karnataka: Kadamba, Hoysala, Rastrakota, Ganga, Chalukya, Bhahamani, Adhilshahi, Sangama, Shathavashna, Yudukula and Vijayanagar. With two restaurants, lounge bar, gym, spa as also the business facilities, the train offers all opulence imaginable on wheels. Itinerary
The train departs from Bangalore every Monday winding its way through Mysore visiting bird sanctuary, Chamundi hill, Srirangapatna and Mysore Palace; Kabini visiting Rajiv Gandhi National Park at Nagarhole; Hassan visiting Shravanbelagola the home to Asia's largest monolithic statue Lord Gomteswara and Belur and Halebid other sites of historical interest; Hospet, Gadag and finally entering into the silvery sunny beaches of Goa.
The journey lasts for seven days and eight nights but it is also possible to travel for the shorter duration such as Hassan to Bangalore and Hospet to Bangalore. The luxury train runs all through the year even during the monsoon.
Cost
The journey on the Golden Chariot costs USD 485 based on single occupancy per person per night and USD 350 based on double occupancy per night. The total for seven nights costs USD 3395 and USD 2450 per person for single and double sharing, respectively.
