The Dog Men by Patricia Crandall

Patricia Crandall has published numerous articles and short stories in various magazines and newspapers. She has four books in print.

(Petersburgh, NY,) Wyatt, age ten and Hannah eleven uncover the dark world of illegal dog fights when they trespass at a Vermont farm and peep through a barn window. And when crotchety old Lester Cranshaw's dog, Paddy, turns up missing, there is no holding him back from investigating the situation and the kids join in. In the dead of night, after the trio are captured and held hostage at the Inglis farm, Wyatt will need all of his wits and courage to escape in order to save the lives of his friends. THE DOG MEN draws the reader into a tempest of animal abuse, lawlessness, and kidnapping within the confines of small-town happenings. This is a chilling plot and peerless relationship between kids, adults and pets.

Review:

The Dog Men is one of those books that your older kids and adults should read. If you are interested in what goes on in the dog fighting world, then it's for you. But it's also for those people that care about animals. Unfortunately, this goes on more than we know.

The characters are young kids. As you know, most young kids are curious. When they discover a terrible secret in their small town, they vow to do something about it.

Fun read and a good gift to those kids that want something different.

Get that copy for your young adult kids or for yourself. It's a fast read and an attention grabber. It delves into the dog fighting world where there's a lot of corruption. If you want to know what goes in the dog fighting world, this book shows you things that happen. It's not for the faint of heart, yet it's not to the point of grotesque. Well written and informational.
