The Assistance Fund Opens New Program for Cold Agglutinin Disease
ORLANDO, Fla., February 21, 2022 (Newswire.com) - The Assistance Fund, an independent charitable patient assistance organization that helps patients and families facing high medical out-of-pocket costs, today announced the launch of a new financial assistance program for people living with cold agglutinin disease. The program is designed to help eligible individuals pay for their out-of-pocket medical costs for FDA-approved treatment such as prescription drug copayments, health insurance premiums, and incidental medical expenses.
People living with cold agglutinin disease—a rare, autoimmune disease—have symptoms triggered by cold, winter weather. In those temperatures, proteins in the blood bind themselves to red blood cells. This process can lead to anemia. Many individuals living with cold agglutinin disease experience joint pain, fatigue, dizziness, and muscle weakness.[i]
"Removing financial worry is critical for improving the quality of life for people diagnosed with cold agglutinin disease," said Mark P. McGreevy, President and CEO of The Assistance Fund. "Thanks to the strong commitment of our donors, our Cold Agglutinin Disease Financial Assistance Program is now open, ensuring more patients can get the care they need."
