The 8 World's Hottest Pepper Plant Seeds Added to Online Stock of Montego Bay Trading Company
Online, February 22, 2012 (Newswire.com) - The Montego Bay Trading Company will be expanding their stock this year to carry the pepper plant seeds of the eight world's hottest peppers. The company's strong online presence will allow them to distribute these rare pepper pant seeds (as well as the plants themselves) around the United States, with the projected shipping date beginning on March 15th.This is an exciting time for chile pepper enthusiasts, as the New Mexico State University's Chile Institute has recently released some controversial findings in crowning the world's hottest pepper that feature much of the Montego Bay Trading Company's new stock.
Earlier this month, the Chile Institute of New Mexico State University tested several different variations of pepper plants with the intention of crowning the world's hottest pepper. Rating the strength of a pepper's spice involves testing the presence of a substance called capsaicin, a higher presence of capsaicin indicating a hotter pepper. The measuring unit of capsaicin is the Scoville heat unit (SHU). For a sense of range, a jalapeno ranks around 5,000 SHU and a habanero typically ranks around 250,000 SHU.
The Chile's institute's previous findings indicated the Naga Bhut Jolokia of India as the world's hottest pepper at 1,040,000 SHU, a finding that was overseen and authenticated by the Guinness Book of World Records. Earlier this month, the institute released unverified findings that the Trinidad Morouga Scorpion is the new world's hottest pepper at 2,000,000 SHU. Chile enthusiasts are both excited and skeptical of these findings, as many experts believe that the sample size of the experiment wasn't large enough to ensure the Morouga's exceptionally high ratings. The unclear results mean that the Naga Bhut Jolokia remains the world's hottest pepper, until verified by a source outside of the institute.
Regardless of the controversy, the Montego Bay Trading Company has begun to sell the plants and seeds of BOTH the Naga Bhut Jolokia, and the Trinidad Morouga Scorpion. Other exceptionally hot plants and pepper plant seeds that will be included in the new stock are: Douglah, Naga Morich, Naga Dorset, 7 Pot Pod Red, Trinidad Scorpion Butch T, and Naga Viper (only supplier in the United States).
Many of these pepper plants were participants in the Chile Institute's studies, and ALL consistently score over 1,000,000 SHU on capsaicin tests. In addition to the plants, the Montego Bay Trading Company will also feature many different sauces, additives, and pastes that are made from the new pepper stock.
