Telemedicine Disrupter besafemeds Appoints Three Women to C-Level Executive Positions
Meet the Leadership Team Striving to Provide Equality in Healthcare Through Innovation
Chicago, Illinois, January 23, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Telemedicine disrupter, besafemeds, appointed three new chief officers including Chief Executive Officer, Dina McKenna, at the start of 2018. Picking up where Founder and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Segun Ishmael left off, McKenna will lead the company as a successor of healthcare through technology. Dawnyell Bowen has accepted the role of Chief Marketing Officer and Modupe Ishmael has shifted into the formal role of Chief Operating Officer, making for a C-Suite of majority women.
As a born disruptor for the people, Dr. Ishmael, launched besafemeds with the idea to rid the stigma of STD treatment through discretion. Through his platform he hopes to raise awareness and fight for healthcare inequities, all while pioneering Chicago to be a leader in the telemedicine space.
“There is no other platform in the market today that specifically addresses the sensitive but ubiquitous problem of sexually transmitted infections and the stigma of being treated in an office/clinic setting,” shared CEO, besafemeds, Dina McKenna. “There is a definite need, the timing is right, the players are gathered and besafemeds should and will be on the minds, computers, and cell phones of all sexually active adults in the very near future.”
With almost 25 years in the healthcare industry working for Forbes Top 100 and 500 ranked companies,
McKenna was heavily involved in the implementation of the Affordable Care Act in various capacities including a key role in the approval of several Accountable Care Organizations. Additionally, McKenna has corporate legal experience and has owned a solo consulting firm which has led several prominent strategic partnerships. besafemeds is confident that McKenna can lead the charge by navigating the constantly changing waters of today’s healthcare with her thorough knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the industry.
The besafemeds leadership team also welcomed Dawnyell Bowen, CMO, and Modupe Ishmael, COO, on the executive board. Bowen, 18-year veteran of marketing and advertising and a former VP at Leo Burnett, plans to use her extensive knowledge in integrated/omni-channel marketing to uncover consumer insights, and pioneer new paths and possibilities for the brand.
“Healthcare and technology have historically been male-dominated industries. There are many incredibly valuable businesswomen in these industries that have been unable to excel and drive business as a result of their gender or a stereotype preceding them. besafemeds has recognized their value and made a strategic and intuitive decision to ask experienced, talented, and strong women to lead,” shared CMO, Dawnyell Bowen.
An extensive background in operational functions for Fortune 500 clients, experience in accounting, operations, compliance and process improvement has lead Modupe Ishmael to take on formal role of COO for besafemeds. As an integral partner since the inception of besafemeds alongside her brother Dr. Ishmael, she is committed to ensuring the continued success of besafemeds.
