Tejano Music Has a New Spark!

SAN ANTONIO, March 13, 2019 (Newswire.com) - “Ahora Sigo Yo” literally translates to “It’s my turn now.” And the title fits when it comes to Stevie D being the next big Chicano singing sensation. However, the lyrics to the title song of his latest compact disc album are about going from being scorned to finding love.

This is a tune that many fans, both male and female, will relate to. Check out the following partial-lyrics and you will see why this Beto Ramón written song has “HIT” written all over it.

And you would tell everyone that I was just a diversion.

Two hits from Stevie D’s first solo CD were “Me Crei De Ti” (“I Believed in You”) and “¿Que Tal Te Va Sin Me?” (“How’s It Going Without Me?”). Hmmm, it’s hard to believe three women wronged this 5-feet-9-inch hunk. However, he does have the last laugh in all those tunes.

“De Repente” (“Suddenly”) was the title of Stevie D’s first solo CD. However, a look at his musical dossier reveals that his success did not come “all of a sudden.”

As a vocalist, Stevie D began to hone his vocal skills as a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe choir – in Brownsville, Texas – from age 11 until he turned 17. Then, the patriotic Brownsville barrio resident joined the United States Navy and served four years at NAS Miramar, California, and as a member of the Desert Storm attack team on the USS Nimitz.

At the end of his four-year enlistment in 1992, the honorably discharged Aviation Administrationman Second Class Petty Officer (AZ2). came back home and did a two-year stint as a vocalist with an unnamed variety band. Then, he joined Rio Express Band, an established Brownsville, TX cover band.

In 1996, he formed “The Texas Shooters”, one of the Rio Grande Valley’s premier bands, which included Mike González of Jimmy González y Grupo Mazz, Adolfo García of the K1; plus, several other prominent musicians. Stevie D also began recording with Joe López’s brother, Lorenzo López, and Brando Mireles at Lorenzo’s Studio. However, none of this recording were ever released.

After the Late Jimmy Gonzalez and Joe Lopez split up in 1998, Stevie D joined Joe’s La Nueva Imagen Mazz as road manager/driver but not too long after found a spot as Joe Lopez’s back-up vocalist. But all good things come to an end; and on July 4, 2003, Stevie did his last show with Joe López y La Nueva Imagen Mazz.

“Next, I moved to Austin to pursue bigger and better opportunities,” Stevie said. “But after 14 years as a successful commodities broker, I gave up a very lucrative job to pursue a full-time music career.”

In 2017, Brando Mireles, Frankie Caballero and Richard Barron – all former Mazz musicians – plus Eddie Pérez of La Calma on guitar, and I got together. We formed the All-Star Cast and recorded “De Repente” with some of the heaviest musicians in Tejano music. They are 14-time Grammy awards winner producer Gilbert Velásquez on guitar, Grammy Awards winner Chente Barrera on drums, Jorge Alejandro on percussion, Grammy Award winner Val Maltos and Brando Mireles on keyboards.

As can be seen, Stevie’s success did not come overnight since his musical history as a professional vocalist dates back almost two decades. The man has paid his dues. As a savvy businessman, he has surrounded himself with la crème de la crème in the industry. Hence, the success of his first CD, with a 1st round Latin Grammy nomination and winning the 2018 Best New Male Vocalist at the Tejano Music Awards.

Other hits from this production were “Cómo Fue” and “Corazón de Piedra.”

And along the way, fans began to call him “The New Prince of Tejano.”

Now, Stevie D’s new compact disc album, “Ahora Sigo Yo,” is scheduled to hit the street in April 2019. The title tune is also the first single off this album.

And, “Me Muero Por Tu Amor” (“I Am Dying for Your Love”) written by Gerardo Alvarez, in duet with Shelly Lares – also a bonus track on the album – is being released as the second single off this production.

“I’m hoping that a very pretty ballad will reach international status,” as he speaks of a second song written by Gerardo Alvarez. Stevie D said, “The third single will be “Dame,” a song that I co-wrote with three-time Latin Grammy Awards winner Jay Alaníz, who played bass with Jimmy González 13 years and is now our band’s guitarist and musical director.”

Today, Stevie D, lead vocals; Latin Grammy Awards winners Johnny “Rod” Rodríguez, keyboards; Homero Esquivel Jr., accordion; Jay Alaníz, guitar and vocals; Emiliano Gauna, bass; and Tejano Roots Hall of Fame inductee Richard Barrón, on drums and vocals; make up the mechanics of the All-Star Cast, whose showmanship keeps getting better and better.

If you have never seen and heard Stevie plus the band in action, you need not wait any longer, for they have two appearances during the San Antonio Tejano Music Fan Fair this weekend. Their first performance will be at La Villita for UNIVISION on Friday, March 15 from 9:20 p.m. to 10:20 p.m.

Their second show will be at The Gateway (under the bridge) for TTMA on Saturday, March 16 from 8:45 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
